The 2025 Pioneer Cup Finals brought the South West football community together for a thrilling night of competition, despite some last-minute challenges from the weather. Originally scheduled to take place at Geographe Bay FC’s home ground, the finals were relocated to Dunsborough Town Football Club due to wet conditions — a true testament to the flexibility and support of our local clubs.
Two standout matches saw Football Margaret River and Dalyellup Park Rangers FC go head-to-head in both the Women’s and Men’s finals, continuing a strong rivalry between two of the region’s top-performing clubs.
🏆 Women’s Final
Football Margaret River SC 4 – 0 Dalyellup Park Rangers FC
MVP: Amy Tulp (Football Margaret River)
The Women’s Final kicked off the evening. Margaret River brought intensity and composure to the Women’s Final, securing a 4–0 win over Dalyellup Park Rangers. Despite the scoreline, it was a hard-fought match with strong efforts on both sides. A standout performance from Amy Tulp earned her MVP honours for the evening.
Midfielder Amy Tulp was named Most Valuable Player for her standout performance, driving play and contributing to her team’s momentum throughout the match.
🏆 Men’s Final
Dalyellup Park Rangers FC 3 – 0 Football Margaret River
MVP: Ben Kirk (Dalyellup Park Rangers)
In the Men’s Final, Dalyellup Park Rangers came out strong, claiming a 3-0 win over Football Margaret River. The match was fast-paced and physical, both teams brought energy and attacking intent. Dalyellup were able to make the most of their opportunities and maintain control throughout the match to come out on top at the final whistle.
Ben Kirk played a key role at both ends of the pitch and was awarded MVP for his impact — including scoring one of three goals.
🙌 A Team Effort Behind the Scenes
While the players took centre stage, events like the Pioneer Cup don’t happen without a huge team effort behind the scenes. A big thank you goes out to Geographe Bay FC, who were set to host the finals, and to Dunsborough Town FC for stepping in with their facilities when the weather had other plans. It’s moments like these that show the true strength of our football community.
A sincere thank you to all clubs involved, and to the match officials provided by FRSW Branch, including Matt Mulligan, David Johnson, Matt Chapman, Romaine Trouve, Stacie Chapman, Wayne Nurse, AJ, and Mick Hankin — your professionalism and commitment are appreciated.
As the first major event on the 2025 football calendar, the Pioneer Cup sets the tone for the season ahead. Congratulations to our champions, and well done to every player, coach, volunteer and supporter involved.
