In regional football, weather can often be a bit of a game changer.
Across the South West, we’ve seen firsthand how quickly conditions can shift. One weekend it's sunshine and smooth sailing; the next, it’s puddles, pitch inspections, and urgent relocation plans. But if there’s one thing that shines through no matter the forecast, it’s the resilience and community spirit of our local clubs.
🌧 When the Weather Hits, the Work Begins
Wet weather often means more than just muddy boots. Grounds become unplayable, fixtures are threatened, and volunteers spring into action. Behind the scenes, club officials are coordinating with SWSA and finding alternative venues — sometimes with just hours to spare.
It’s not always glamorous, but it’s a testament to the dedication of our local football community.
🔁 The Power of Club-to-Club Support
An example of this came during the 2025 Pioneer Cup Finals. Originally set to take place at Geographe Bay FC, the event had to be moved last-minute due to heavy rain. Without hesitation, Dunsborough Town FC stepped in to host both the Women's and Men’s finals — a seamless transition that wouldn’t have been possible without flexibility, communication, and good old-fashioned teamwork.
More recently our South West Cup Quarter Finals had to be rescheduled all together
This kind of collaboration happens more than most people realise, and it’s what makes the South West football scene truly special.
🤝 More Than Matches: A Connected Community
Whether it’s lending out portable goals, adjusting kick-off times to suit a shared field, or offering up a spare change room, our clubs are consistently going above and beyond for each other.
It’s not just about getting the game played, it’s about ensuring players, families, and supporters still get to experience what local football is all about: connection, effort, and pride.
So next time a fixture changes or a field looks a little different — know there’s a hardworking team behind the scenes, doing their best to keep the beautiful game rolling.
